Hello! I am Kembrie Farrow, and I am excited to be serving the Newell community as the school social worker here at Newell Elementary School. I am originally from Gainesville, Florida, but have lived in North Carolina since 2004. I attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (go Tarheels!) where I earned a bachelor's degree in Public Health. I later returned to school at Fayetteville State University where I earned a master's degree in social work. I have been in the field of social work for seven years and became part of the Newell Elementary family in January 2018. I look forward to a great year as part of the team that ensures that all of our students' social, emotional, physical and mental health needs are met so they can do their best academically.
About School Social Work
School Social Work is a specialty practice in the field of social work that focuses on helping students succeed academically by enhancing communication between the school, home and larger community. School Social Workers work alongside other members of the school's student services team to provide student assessments, individual and small group counseling, behavioral interventions, home visits, parent conferences and case management services to identified students and families. School social workers also link students and families to critical community agency services.
School Social Workers eliminate barriers to student achievement by targeting six areas of focus:
